Jammu: Officials reported that a suspected terrorist linked to Pakistan was killed during an ongoing operation in the snow-covered regions of Kishtwar district on Wednesday evening.

This incident marks the fifth encounter in the Chatroo area within the last 18 days, as the Army and local police persist in their efforts to locate a group of terrorists associated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) organization.

According to the Army's White Knight Corps, the operation, known as Trashi-I, involved a joint effort by the Counter-Insurgency Force Delta, J&K Police, and CRPF. They re-established contact with the fleeing terrorists around 5:45 PM in the Dichhar area of Kishtwar.

"One terrorist has been successfully neutralized, and the operation is ongoing," the Army stated in a post on social media.

The latest encounter began when a joint search team was conducting operations in the Sanjinala-Dichhar area of the Chingam forest.

Despite heavy snowfall blanketing the Chatroo region, the Army has maintained its pursuit of the terrorists since the initial gunfight on January 18, which resulted in the death of a paratrooper and injuries to seven others.

Although the terrorists initially escaped due to the dense vegetation and difficult terrain, they were intercepted again a few kilometers from the first encounter site on January 22.

Despite the challenges, the forces continued their search, even as the area experienced over two feet of snowfall, leading to additional gunfights on January 26 and 31.
