Terrorist Encounter in Udhampur: Security Forces Engage in Intense Gunfight
Intense Gunfight in Udhampur District
Jammu: Officials reported that a terrorist was likely injured during a confrontation with security personnel in a secluded forest village in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening.
Although the gunfight has ceased, a strict security perimeter has been established, with all potential escape routes blocked to capture the terrorists who are still believed to be hiding in the area.
The clash erupted in the Soan village of the Majalta region after security forces initiated a search operation based on intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group.
Inspector General of Police for Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, confirmed that contact was made with the terrorists following accurate information received about their location in the remote village.
A collaborative effort involving the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police, the Army, and the CRPF is currently underway, according to the officer.
In a subsequent update, the IGP noted that a small SOG unit was actively engaging the terrorists, but operations in the forest were hindered by darkness and challenging terrain.
The encounter began around 6 PM in the surrounded village and lasted for a while.
Initial reports suggest that one terrorist was hit during the first exchange of gunfire. The operation was paused for the night and is set to resume at dawn on Tuesday.
Reinforcements have been dispatched to the area to bolster the cordon and neutralize the remaining terrorists.
