Soldier Loses Life in Uri Sector
Srinagar: On Wednesday, a soldier was killed while troops successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the soldier lost his life during intense gunfire with militants. The Army has initiated a counter-infiltration operation and a border action team (BAT) operation in the vicinity, with ongoing search efforts. The infiltration attempt was intercepted in the Churunda area of Uri, located in Baramulla district.
A comprehensive counter-infiltration operation is currently underway to locate the terrorists, with exchanges of fire continuing as more information is awaited.
In a related development, the prolonged anti-terror operation in the Akhal Devsar forest area of Kulgam district has now reached its 13th day.
This operation is noted as the longest anti-terror initiative currently active in the Valley.
During the initial night of the confrontation on August 1, one local terrorist was neutralized, and four soldiers sustained injuries. Tragically, two of the injured soldiers later succumbed to their wounds, while the others are receiving medical care.
Officials indicated that the operation may extend due to the vast and dense nature of the forest.
Joint forces, comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, commenced Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) in the area starting August 1.
To prevent the escape of the hiding terrorists, the Army has deployed Rudra helicopters, drones, and para commandos.
Security forces are intensifying their operations against terrorists in the region, while the Army maintains heightened vigilance along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.
As part of these aggressive operations, three notorious Pakistani terrorists linked to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 fatalities, were eliminated.
The deceased terrorists included Suleman Shah, a commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), along with his associates Abu Hamza and Jibran Bhai, who were killed on July 28 in the higher elevations of Dachigam National Park, near Mahadev mountain peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar.
This operation has been designated as ‘Operation Mahadev’ by the Army.
Following the Pahalgam attack, security forces have intensified their anti-terror operations targeting armed militants, their supporters, and sympathizers.
