Protests Erupt Across Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu: On Sunday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged residents to maintain calm as law enforcement evaluated the situation following widespread protests triggered by the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Protests erupted in various regions of the Union Territory in response to Khamenei's death, which was reportedly caused by a US-Israel military operation, according to officials.

In areas with significant Shia populations, thousands of demonstrators took to the streets, particularly in Kashmir and some regions of Jammu, including Bhatindi and Chanderkote in Ramban district.
Abdullah expressed his deep concern regarding the recent events in Iran, including Khamenei's assassination, and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Jammu and Kashmir residents, especially students currently in Iran.
"I urge all communities to stay calm, promote peace, and avoid actions that could escalate tensions or unrest. We must allow those mourning in Jammu and Kashmir to do so peacefully. The police and administration should exercise maximum restraint and avoid using force or imposing restrictions," Abdullah stated in a post on X.
Iranian state media confirmed that Khamenei was killed in an attack orchestrated by Israel and the United States.
A police spokesperson mentioned that senior officers were assessing the security landscape in light of the spontaneous protests following Khamenei's death.
District police officials were instructed to monitor the situation closely and maintain peace.
