Tensions Rise in Jammu and Kashmir Amid Drone Incidents Following Ceasefire Agreement

Drone Sightings and Explosions Cause Alarm in Jammu and Kashmir
Shortly after an agreement to halt military actions between India and Pakistan, reports of drone sightings and subsequent explosions in Jammu and Kashmir triggered widespread concern, prompting security forces to activate air defense systems.
In Srinagar, residents reported multiple explosions in the evening. During this time, air defense units targeted a drone flying in the Batwara area, close to a strategic military facility. Officials confirmed that the drone was successfully shot down.
The explosions occurred approximately every 15 minutes, with flames visible in the darkness, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed skepticism about the ceasefire announcement on social media.
He posted on 'X', questioning, 'This is not a ceasefire. Air defense units are on alert in the heart of Srinagar. What happened to the ceasefire? Sounds of explosions were heard in Srinagar!!'
Reports of drone activity emerged throughout the Kashmir Valley. One drone was destroyed by anti-drone systems over Baramulla city around 8:20 PM. Another drone was shot down in the highlands of Anantnag, very close to a military establishment.
Drone sightings were also reported from Verinag and Bandipora in Anantnag district, as well as from Safapora, although detailed information is still pending.
Officials noted that while a direct agreement to cease firing and military actions had been reached between India and Pakistan, sounds of continuous explosions were heard late Saturday night in Jammu and Udhampur districts, with suspicious drones from the neighboring country observed in the area.
Explosions followed sirens in some parts of Jammu city, leading to temporary power outages in certain areas. Although the reasons behind the explosions have not yet been confirmed, locals reported seeing army air defense units firing in attempts to neutralize enemy drones.
Additionally, reports indicated mortar fire and small arms shooting in the RS Pura sector along the international border and the Line of Control in Akhnoor and Nowshera districts of Rajouri.
