Unrest Erupts in Dhubri

Dhubri, June 8: A wave of unrest swept through Dhubri town on Sunday after the alleged discovery of prohibited meat, including a severed cow's head, at the Bajrangbali (Hanuman) temple located in Ward No. 3.

This incident sparked significant outrage among the local Hindu community, prompting them to organize protests demanding immediate action against those responsible.

A large group of frustrated residents blocked the main road near the temple, chanting slogans and setting tyres ablaze as part of their demonstration.

Protesters resisted police efforts to remove the remains from the site, with one demonstrator stating, “We will not permit the cow's head to be taken until those accountable are identified and apprehended.”

A substantial police presence was deployed, with officers attempting to calm the crowd and maintain order.

Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Dhubri, arrived at the scene to manage the situation and assure the public of a comprehensive and unbiased investigation.

However, they reportedly encountered resistance while trying to secure the area and collect the remains. The atmosphere remained tense throughout the day.

Authorities confirmed that forensic analysis would be conducted to ascertain the nature of the substance, and they promised strict legal action against anyone attempting to incite communal discord.

Initial reports suggest that this act may have been a deliberate attempt by troublemakers to disrupt communal harmony.

Notably, this incident marks the third occurrence at the same temple, further intensifying anger and concern among the local populace.

As of this report, no arrests have been made, and investigations are still underway.
