On Saturday morning, Kalyu village in the Sillaghrat region of Chamba district experienced heightened tensions after an alleged desecration at the Jalpa Mata Temple incited anger among local residents.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 5:00 a.m., a young man reportedly entered the temple grounds and set fire to a sacred cloth that had been offered to the deity. This cloth, regarded as a holy offering by worshippers, suffered partial damage, leading to significant outrage among the villagers.

Community members asserted that the individual, identified as belonging to a different community, entered the temple early in the morning and ignited the cloth, thereby offending religious sentiments and violating the sanctity of the shrine. When villagers arrived later that morning and discovered the damage, news of the incident rapidly circulated, attracting a large crowd to the temple.

The escalating situation prompted police intervention. Upon receiving reports, the Station House Officer (SHO) from the Sadar Police Station quickly arrived at the scene with a police team to evaluate the circumstances and maintain order.

According to police officials, the suspect fled the scene following the incident. Authorities have launched a search operation and are questioning members of the local Muslim community as part of their investigation to identify and apprehend the individual responsible.

The SHO has adopted a firm approach, instructing the police team to locate and arrest the suspect promptly and bring him to Chamba for further legal proceedings. A case has been filed, and a thorough investigation is currently in progress.

In an effort to ease tensions, the family of the accused met with village residents to offer a public apology for the incident. They expressed sincere regret and assured the community that such an occurrence would not happen again.

Police officials are actively working to preserve peace in the area and have urged residents to refrain from spreading rumors while the investigation is ongoing.
