Internet Services Suspended Amid Rising Tensions


In Bhadrak, Odisha, internet services have been suspended in certain areas following unrest triggered by the death of an individual during a confrontation related to cattle smuggling, as reported by local police on Thursday.


According to Bhadrak Superintendent of Police, Manoj Rout, the suspension of internet access for 24 hours starting at 6 AM on Thursday was a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.


To address the situation, the district administration has increased police presence in sensitive regions of Bhadrak.


Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared a compensation of ₹10 lakh and a job opportunity for a family member of the deceased, while also mandating stringent action against those responsible.


The victim, identified as 45-year-old Santosh Parida from Kasati village, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night while receiving treatment at a private facility in Bhubaneswar.


Parida was reportedly assaulted by members of an opposing faction after he spoke out against cattle smuggling, as detailed in the FIR filed by his relatives.


Rout informed the media that 12 individuals, including the main suspect, have been apprehended through coordinated raids across various locations in Odisha and beyond, with ongoing efforts to capture additional suspects involved in the incident.
