Tensions Rise as Trump Faces Deadline with Iran

Escalating Threats from Iran

According to a senior adviser to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, U.S. President Donald Trump has a mere "20 hours" to capitulate to Iran, or his allies risk being thrust back into the Stone Age. Mahdi Mohammadi, who also serves as a national security analyst, expressed this sentiment on X, stating, "We will not back down!" He emphasized that Iran has decisively triumphed in the ongoing conflict and will only accept a resolution that solidifies its advantages and establishes a new security framework in the region. Mohammadi's post underscores the urgency of the situation, asserting that it is Trump who must act swiftly.

As the deadline approaches, Trump has mandated that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8 PM Eastern Time on Tuesday, or face the repercussions of an intensified U.S. military response. He warned that after this deadline, there would be "no bridges, no power plants," indicating severe consequences for Iran. Trump remarked, "This is a critical period... They asked for an extension of seven days; I gave them 10 days... They have till tomorrow. Now we will see what happens... A lot of people are affected by this. We are giving them until tomorrow, 8 o'clock, Eastern Time. After that, they are going to have no bridges. They are going to have no power plants. Stone ages." He acknowledged that he is confronting a "much more powerful Iran" than when the conflict began on February 28, asserting that the U.S. has "decapitated" the threat, and that such measures should have been implemented decades ago.

Current Status of US-Iran Negotiations

Recent reports indicate that a proposed framework has been shared with both the U.S. and Iran, suggesting a two-phase strategy: an immediate ceasefire lasting approximately 45 days, followed by negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting agreement. However, Iranian state media and various international sources report that Iran has dismissed the ceasefire proposal, instead advocating for a permanent cessation of hostilities.
