Gulf Ceasefire Under Threat

The temporary ceasefire in the Gulf region is once again in jeopardy. The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced early Friday that its air defense systems are actively engaging missiles and drones aimed at the country. This incident occurred shortly after a direct confrontation between the U.S. Navy and Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz.

The ministry has advised residents to avoid approaching any debris or fragments from the intercepted missiles, urging them not to take pictures or touch the remnants. Earlier, the U.S. military reported that it thwarted Iranian attacks on three naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night, targeting Iranian military sites responsible for the assaults.

The U.S. Central Command shared on social media that American forces responded to "unprovoked Iranian attacks" with defensive strikes. They confirmed that no vessels were harmed and emphasized their readiness to protect U.S. forces without escalating tensions.

Despite the violence, President Donald Trump stated to reporters in Washington that the ceasefire remains intact. Since April 8, a fragile truce between the U.S. and Iran has largely held, although talks mediated by Pakistan last month failed to reach an agreement to end the conflict, which began on February 28 with attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran.

The assault on a commercial hub like the UAE and military activity in a crucial oil route pose significant risks to international markets and global energy supplies. If the violence continues, the delicate peace agreement established on April 8 could completely collapse.
