Ongoing Unrest in Beldanga

Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asserted that the ongoing unrest, including blockades and stone-pelting incidents in Beldanga, West Bengal, highlights a significant breakdown of law and order in the region. This unrest began following the arrival of the body of a migrant worker, who was reportedly killed in Jharkhand.

Protesters have obstructed National Highways and railway tracks, leading to a complete halt of daily activities since early Friday.

Reports indicate that vehicles on the National Highway and trains have been subjected to extensive stone-pelting.

Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP's Information Technology Cell and the party's central observer for West Bengal, took to social media to express that the unrest in Beldanga signifies a collapse of governance in the state, claiming that hooligans affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress are operating without restraint.

Malviya stated, "In Beldanga, Murshidabad district, anti-social elements have blocked the National Highway for nearly three hours. Stone-pelting is ongoing, trains have been halted, and the area is under the control of these troublemakers, with no police presence to intervene. Thousands of passengers are stranded, frightened, and without basic necessities like food and water, with no relief in sight."

He further emphasized that the situation reflects a failure of governance in West Bengal, where rioters, allegedly supported by the ruling TMC, are allowed to disrupt normal life at will, leading the state toward chaos.

The migrant worker in question has been identified as Alauddin Sheikh, a 36-year-old resident of Sujarpur-Kamarpur village panchayat in Murshidabad district.

Sheikh had been living in Jharkhand, working as a street vendor.

His family reported receiving news of his death from Jharkhand on Thursday morning, with local police informing them that his body was discovered hanging in his rented accommodation.

However, the family contends that the police are attempting to label the incident as a suicide, while they believe Sheikh was first lynched before his body was hanged.
