Commissioner Halts Demolition Orders

In a significant development for Mohammad Ali Jauhar University located in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, the Commissioner of Moradabad, Anjaney Kumar Singh, has issued a stay on the demolition orders against the university. This decision, announced on Monday, will remain in effect until further notice, effectively pausing all administrative actions related to the case. The Rampur Development Authority (RDA) had previously ordered the demolition of 38 out of 40 buildings at the university on July 15, citing unauthorized construction.

Established in 2006 by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, the university is situated approximately 12 kilometers from the Rampur railway station.

Political Controversy Surrounds Demolition Orders

The demolition orders were prompted by a report from a local junior engineer regarding unauthorized construction activities on the university campus. The RDA justified its decision by stating that the 38 buildings were constructed without the necessary building plan approvals. This action has sparked controversy in Uttar Pradesh, especially with assembly elections approaching early next year. Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, has accused the BJP government of targeting the university out of political vendetta and has urged the public to rally in its defense.

Opposition Party Takes Action

Last week, a delegation from the Samajwadi Party, led by Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, met with Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, the District Magistrate of Rampur, to demand a halt to the demolition efforts. They submitted a memorandum signed by 45 party legislators, emphasizing their opposition to the actions taken against the university.
