Telangana High Court Delays Hearing on Pawan Khera's Bail Plea Amid Controversy
Hearing Postponed in Pawan Khera's Bail Case
On Thursday, Ponnam Ashok Goud, a lawyer from the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), announced that the Telangana High Court has postponed the hearing on Congress leader Pawan Khera's anticipatory bail application. This decision came after the Advocate General of Assam expressed a desire to argue the case. Goud mentioned in a conversation that Khera is accused of allegedly failing to disclose or concealing information in his election nomination papers, a claim that has yet to be substantiated.
Allegations and Legal Proceedings
Goud explained that the hearing was rescheduled to 2:15 PM after the Advocate General's appearance. The accusations against Khera revolve around the alleged omission of information in his nomination papers, which must be proven. He criticized the state for taking advantage of the situation, stating that a police team was dispatched to Delhi within 24 hours, fearing potential arrest and even physical harm. Under Article 14, they have the right to defend themselves, which is why they approached the court to file their plea.
Jurisdiction Issues Raised
Goud further alleged that the state acted hastily, sending a police team to Delhi in a rush. He reiterated their concerns about possible arrest and physical abuse, emphasizing their right to a defense under Article 14. Regarding jurisdiction, he noted that the defense argued that the plea should have been filed in Delhi or Assam instead of Telangana. The final decision on this matter is expected to be announced around 11 AM the following day. Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted Khera, labeling him a 'fugitive' and questioning the relevance of the Congress party.
