Telangana Celebrates World Bicycle Day with Enthusiastic Cycling Rally
A Grand Celebration of Cycling
On Sunday, a large number of citizens, athletes, students, and fitness lovers gathered across Telangana to celebrate World Bicycle Day. This event was part of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative held at the Gachibowli Practice Stadium. Organized by the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) under the Department of Sports, the rally saw participation from numerous locations throughout the state, fostering a lively atmosphere that promoted health, fitness, and environmental awareness.
Leadership and Distinguished Guests
The flagship cycling event was inaugurated at Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad, by Telangana's Governor, Shiv Pratap Shukla, who was the Chief Guest. This initiative is part of the Fit India Movement, a program launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at encouraging active lifestyles and sustainable transportation. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Telangana is evolving into a state with a robust sporting culture, and events like Fit India Sundays on Cycle are pivotal in enhancing fitness and sports participation.
Governor Highlights Cycling's Importance
During the event, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla highlighted the dual benefits of cycling, emphasizing its significance for both environmental sustainability and public health. He urged citizens to adopt cycling as a daily practice, aligning with the values of the Fit India initiative.
A Festive Morning of Fitness
Participants began arriving as early as 5:30 AM, receiving event t-shirts and energizing themselves with a lively Zumba warm-up session. After the cycling rally, participants were awarded medals for their enthusiasm and dedication to fitness. The event concluded with a communal breakfast, marking a refreshing and invigorating start to the day.
The Nationwide Fit India Movement
Launched on August 29, 2019, the Fit India Movement aims to integrate fitness into the daily lives of Indians. The Sundays on Cycle program has evolved into a nationwide initiative, engaging over 3 million cycling enthusiasts and reaching more than 70 million citizens through various activities, social media, and public engagement.
Inclusive Participation and Community Impact
The celebrations on Sunday included a diverse range of participants, such as CRPF units, Indian Air Force personnel, CISF, ITBP, CGDA, ESIC, police departments, sports academies, Khelo India Centres, educational institutions, cycling clubs, and tech companies. True to its inclusive nature, the campaign has broadened its scope to include yoga, Zumba, rope skipping, and other wellness activities, making fitness accessible to individuals of all ages.
This event was a powerful demonstration of community involvement, reflecting the collective commitment of citizens towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier India.
