Tejashwi Yadav Promises Financial Aid to Women in Bihar Ahead of Elections

Financial Support Announcement

On Tuesday, Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, declared that if the Opposition coalition, known as Mahagathbandhan, secures victory in the upcoming Assembly elections, women in Bihar will receive a financial aid of Rs 30,000 under the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana. This initiative is set to be launched during the Hindu festival of Makar Sankranti in January 2026.

This announcement was made on the final day of campaigning for the first phase of the elections, which are scheduled for November 6 and November 11, with results to be announced on November 14.

The Mahagathbandhan alliance includes the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, three Left parties, the Vikassheel Insaan Party, and the Indian Inclusive Party, with Yadav positioned as the chief ministerial candidate.

The Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, which was introduced in the coalition's manifesto released on October 28, aims to provide Rs 2,500 monthly to women from economically disadvantaged and marginalized communities.

During a press briefing, Yadav emphasized that the alliance intends to transfer Rs 30,000 to women’s accounts for a full year starting on January 14, coinciding with the Makar Sankranti celebrations, in response to requests from the women of Bihar.

Additionally, Yadav pledged to provide free electricity for irrigation and increase prices for essential crops.

“If our government is elected, we will offer a bonus of Rs 300 per quintal for paddy, alongside the Minimum Support Price (MSP),” he stated. “For wheat, we will provide a bonus of Rs 400 per quintal, in addition to the MSP.”

The Opposition leader expressed confidence that the public is ready for a change and will vote out the current National Democratic Alliance government.

This announcement follows the state government's recent initiative, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which credited Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts of 25 lakh women as part of its entrepreneurship and self-employment program.

The Janata Dal (United) party, under Kumar's leadership, is part of the National Democratic Alliance, which also includes the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Lok Janshakti Party, led by Union minister Chirag Paswan.

Other members of this coalition include former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
