Patna, April 8: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar's Assembly, has sharply criticized the state's healthcare system following the circulation of a troubling video from Gaya on social media.

The footage, which is said to be from Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital, depicts a young man transporting his elderly grandmother on a scooter due to the unavailability of a stretcher or wheelchair.

This incident has ignited public outrage and raised significant concerns regarding the infrastructure of hospitals in Bihar.

In a post on X, Yadav took a sarcastic jab at the government and Health Minister Mangal Pandey, stating, “In Bihar’s hospitals, some lack doctors, others have no cotton or needles; in some, there are no medicines or beds -- and now even wheelchairs are missing. Patients are forced to use bicycles, cots, and scooters out of desperation.”

He further claimed that the healthcare system has entirely deteriorated under the current NDA administration.

Yadav questioned the essence of healthcare facilities in the state, arguing that simply building structures and calling them hospitals does not enhance medical services. “If there are no doctors, nurses, medicines, or basic amenities, what justifies calling it a hospital?” he queried.

He accused the government of favoring construction contracts over improving healthcare services, warning that such facilities risk becoming mere shells without adequate staffing and resources.

Targeting the NDA government, Yadav asserted that it shows little concern for the plight of the impoverished and is more focused on maintaining its grip on power.

He also claimed that government hospitals in Bihar have turned into referral centers, effectively directing patients to private healthcare providers.

Yadav emphasized that initiatives from his time in the Health Department have been overlooked, alleging that the system has once again fallen prey to middlemen and what he referred to as a medical mafia.

The viral video has escalated the political discourse surrounding Bihar’s healthcare system, leading to increased scrutiny of the infrastructure and service delivery in public hospitals.
