Athletes Achieve Commonwealth Games Qualification

During the ninth leg of the one-day Indian Athletics Series held in Ludhiana on Saturday, high hurdler Tejas Shirse, along with javelin throwers Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh, successfully met the qualification standards for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.


Scheduled to occur in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026, this event marked the final domestic qualification opportunity for athletes aspiring to compete in the CWG, as stated by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).


Tejas Shirse's Record-Breaking Performance

Tejas Ashok Shirse secured first place in the men's 110m hurdles with an impressive time of 13.27 seconds, surpassing the CWG qualification benchmark of 13.39 seconds and breaking his own national record of 13.41 seconds set in 2024.


Javelin Throw Results

Both Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh achieved the CWG qualifying mark of 82.61m in the men's javelin throw. Rohit Yadav led the competition with a throw of 83.76m on his first attempt, while Yashvir Singh followed closely with a throw of 82.93m. Shivam Lohakare secured third place with a throw of 80.52m.
