Teenagers Arrested for Assaulting Migrant Worker in Tamil Nadu
Incident Overview
Authorities in Tamil Nadu have detained four minors following an attack on a 20-year-old migrant worker from Odisha in the Tiruvallur district, as reported on Monday.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening while the victim, K Suraj, was aboard a suburban train traveling from Chennai to Tiruttani. The four teenagers, all aged 17 and reportedly under the influence, boarded the train at Tiruvalangadu.
Equipped with sickles hidden in their bags, they intended to create content for social media, according to police sources.
According to police statements, one of the minors approached Suraj, asking if they could place a sickle on his neck for a video. When Suraj declined, a dispute ensued, which escalated until they reached the Tiruttani railway station.
At the station, the group allegedly coerced Suraj into an abandoned railway quarter, where three of them assaulted him with sickles while the fourth recorded the attack.
The video was subsequently shared online, showing one of the attackers posing next to the injured Suraj and making a victory gesture.
Law enforcement quickly located the suspects and apprehended them within hours. They were then brought before the Juvenile Justice Board in Tiruvallur.
Three of the minors were sent to the Chengalpattu Juvenile Reformation School, while the fourth, a student, was granted bail.
They are facing serious charges, including attempted murder and criminal intimidation.
Suraj sustained significant injuries to his head, hands, and face. He received initial treatment at the Tiruttani Government Hospital before being transferred to the Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
