Teen Girl Rescued from Abduction and Sexual Assault in Nagpur
Incident Overview
On August 5, a 16-year-old girl was reportedly held captive and sexually assaulted in a rented house in Nagpur. A young man from Thane has been arrested in connection with the case, as confirmed by police on Wednesday. The victim had befriended the accused through the social media platform Instagram.
Authorities revealed that the girl was rescued around 11 PM on Monday from a residence located in the Dighori area of the city, where the suspect, Nirbhay Pakhre, was also apprehended.
Details of the Case
According to officials, the minor, a resident of Nagpur, had been reported missing since August 2, prompting her family to file a complaint at the Hudkeshwar police station. Utilizing technical data, the police were able to locate her.
Upon rescue, the girl was found lying on a bed with her hands and feet bound. The accused was reportedly standing nearby with a belt in hand, and a knife was discovered close to the bed.
Victim's Condition and Accusations
The victim bore multiple injuries and has since been admitted to a hospital for treatment. Police stated that Pakhre had created a fake Instagram profile under the name Akash Mehra last year, through which he initiated contact with the girl, leading to their conversations.
The girl had shared some personal images with him, which he later used to blackmail her, threatening to distribute the photos online. Out of fear, she allegedly continued to meet him.
Legal Actions Taken
The accused reportedly assaulted her at a hotel. Authorities have filed charges against Pakhre under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and for kidnapping. He has been remanded to police custody for two days.
As part of the investigation, police are also examining Pakhre's mobile phone and social media accounts.
