Team India's Selection Criteria Emphasized

Lucknow (Jun 20): Ryan ten Doeschate, the assistant coach for Team India, has conveyed a crucial message regarding the selection process for the national squad. He emphasized that only players demonstrating consistent performance will secure their positions in the team. Currently, the Indian team is engaged in a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which is viewed as a preparatory phase for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027. The selectors will meticulously evaluate each match, and a player's inclusion will be determined solely based on their performance.

Uncertainty Surrounds Senior Players

There remains uncertainty about whether veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will participate in the 2027 World Cup. In light of this, Ryan ten Doeschate has issued a clear warning to a key player on the team, indicating that a lack of improvement in performance could lead to his exclusion.

Concerns Over Kuldeep Yadav's Performance

Concerns over Kuldeep Yadav's form

The form of star spinner Kuldeep Yadav has raised concerns within the Indian camp. Ryan ten Doeschate highlighted the importance of Kuldeep regaining his form swiftly to maintain his position in the team. Following a disappointing IPL season, Kuldeep was omitted from the T20 squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. Ahead of the third ODI against Afghanistan, ten Doeschate remarked, "He bowled reasonably well in the last match. However, he hasn't had consistent play recently, not even in Test matches. While there’s no significant concern at this moment, he must make a strong comeback." Kuldeep, who missed the first match in Dharmashala, participated in the second match in Lucknow but did not take any wickets.

Need for Innovation Among Spinners

'Spinners need to innovate!'

The assistant coach further stated, "We always aim to have a mystery spinner in our lineup. However, given the evolving nature of cricket and how batters are adapting to spin bowling, it is essential for spinners to continually innovate. This applies to Kuldeep and others as well. The team's spin coach, Sairaj Bahutule, must collaborate with the players on this front. Currently, there is fierce competition for every position in the team, and selections are made with specific roles and team dynamics in mind." He added, "I have complete faith in Kuldeep's abilities. However, there are numerous players vying for a spot in the team, and we need to motivate him to deliver consistent performances."
