Celebrating World Environment Day with Collective Action

Indore, June 3, 2025 — The Jimmy and Janak Magilligan Foundation for Sustainable Development hosted a special event as part of the 33rd Annual Environmental Dialogue Week (May 30 - June 5) at the IATV Educational Academy, located on Nemawar Road, Indore. All teachers from the school actively participated in this initiative.

The event commenced with a welcoming address by Mrs. Shubharanjan Chatterjee, who emphasized the importance of collective efforts. The chief guest, Padma Shri Dr. Janak Palta Magilligan, elaborated on this year's UNEP theme, 'Collective Action to Combat Plastic Pollution,' stating,

“A healthy life is impossible without a healthy environment. Only through collective efforts can we achieve clean air free from plastic pollution.”

She further explained that this week was organized to transform awareness, participation, and behavioral change into a public movement in Indore and surrounding areas.

Speaker Mr. Bharat Singh raised concerns about people's mindsets, saying,

“The habit of discarding everything is the biggest pollution. Clean air is not just a right; it is our responsibility. We must first cleanse our thoughts of pollution.”

Approximately 110 teachers attended the program and pledged to not only refrain from using plastic items themselves but also to encourage their students, families, and communities to do the same. They committed to educating others about the scientific and ethical implications of plastic use.

A poignant poem presented by a teacher added a serious tone to the event:

“You will not escape the wrath of the Earth,

Burning plastic, you will poison the air,

You will never be free from the Earth's debt,

Leaving future generations to suffer in hell.”

The event was skillfully conducted by Mr. Rajat Tiwari, with gratitude expressed by Vice Principal Mrs. Sarika Sharma.

This gathering was not only a platform for ideas but is also seen as the beginning of a campaign for real change — an effort that aims to ensure a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for future generations.
