Celebrating Artistic Excellence


GUWAHATI, Feb 27: The socio-cultural group Jyotirupa recognized the distinguished actor and director Taufiqur Rahman for his lifelong contributions to art and culture during the final day of the 18th Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Theatre Festival.


During a ceremony at the Sri Sri Madhavadeva International Auditorium in Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Rahman received a citation, xorai, memento, and a traditional shawl. This event marked the conclusion of the three-day festival, which took place from February 24 to 26.


In the citation, Jyotirupa praised Rahman for his profound and resonant voice, noting that his artistic journey, which spans over fifty years, has greatly enriched the cultural fabric of Assam.


The organization acknowledged Rahman's significant impact across various mediums, including theatre, television, and film, highlighting his roles as a playwright, producer, scriptwriter, and director. His exceptional dialogue delivery and ability to portray a wide range of characters have garnered him extensive acclaim and numerous awards.


The ceremony was part of the festival's closing events, which also included a performance of the play Bukur Soru Sorai. This production, based on a story and concept by Ujjala Barman and adapted by Amlan Deep Saikia, was presented by Angana, Guwahati, under Barman's overall direction.


The three-day theatre festival attracted various theatre groups and cultural enthusiasts, culminating in the awards ceremony and theatrical performance, thus concluding the annual event on Thursday.
