The Air India flight, which went down shortly after takeoff, carried 242 individuals, including passengers from various nationalities. Tata's Chairman, N. Chandrasekaran, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the injured and assisting in the construction of a medical hostel. As investigations continue, including the search for the aircraft's black box, the company expresses its deep condolences to the affected families.

Compensation Announcement Following Tragic Incident

The Tata Group has pledged to provide ₹1 crore in compensation to the families of each victim who lost their lives in the recent plane crash in Ahmedabad. The Air India aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, tragically went down shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon, crashing into the grounds of a medical college.


The Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI171) took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and subsequently crashed, igniting a fire at the city’s civil hospital and B.J. Medical College. According to Air India, among the 230 passengers, there were 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. The remaining 12 included two pilots and ten crew members.


N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, stated, "We will also cover the medical expenses for the injured and ensure they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will assist in the construction of a hostel for B.J. Medical students."


In a statement, the company expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident involving Air India Flight 171, stating, "Words cannot express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones and those who have been injured."


Chandrasekaran further assured that the company stands in solidarity with those affected by this unfortunate event. Following the crash, Ahmedabad's air traffic control reported that the pilot of the twin-engine aircraft issued a 'Mayday' distress call at 1:39 PM, indicating a full emergency. Meanwhile, efforts to locate the aircraft's black box are ongoing to understand what transpired in the final moments.
