Tanzid Hasan's Historic Achievement

On Friday, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, the opener for Bangladesh, made history by becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score a Test century on Australian soil. This remarkable feat occurred during the second day of the opening Test match in a two-match series against Australia, held at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin.

Tanzid achieved his first Test century in 188 balls, marking this milestone during Bangladesh's first innings after Australia was dismissed for 198 runs on the first day. His achievement was celebrated on social media with the hashtag #MilestoneMoment.

Significance of the Century

This century also marked a significant moment for Bangladesh cricket, as it ended a lengthy wait for a Test century scored by a Bangladeshi player outside the country. The last instance was in 2022 when Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 137 runs against South Africa in Durban. Tanzid's century is only the second Test century by a Bangladeshi player against Australia, following Shahriar Nafees's 138 runs at Fatullah in 2006.

The 25-year-old was eventually dismissed for 101 runs off 197 balls, which included eight boundaries and a six. His performance was crucial in helping Bangladesh establish a lead over Australia, as they reached 238/3 after 67 overs, leading by 40 runs.

Hasan Mahmud's Outstanding Bowling Performance

On the first day of the Test, Bangladesh's Hasan Mahmud delivered a stellar performance, taking a career-best 6 wickets for 55 runs, which played a vital role in bowling out Australia for 198 runs in just 53 overs. His figures surpassed the previous best by a Bangladeshi bowler against Australia, which was 5/62 by Rafique in 2006.

Hasan's achievement has positioned him as a formidable bowler in away conditions, with three five-wicket hauls in just 15 Tests, making him the second-most successful Bangladeshi pacer in this regard, trailing only Shahadat Hossain.

Australia struggled to maintain momentum after a 45-run partnership between Travis Head and Jake Weatherald, collapsing to 74/4. Although Steve Smith contributed 71 runs, the Australian batting lineup faltered under Hasan's relentless attack.

Taskin Ahmed Reaches 300-Wicket Milestone

In another notable achievement, Taskin Ahmed became the sixth bowler in Bangladesh's cricket history to reach the milestone of 300 international wickets, finishing with figures of 2/55. He now boasts a total of 300 wickets across 204 matches, including 13 four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls, with an average exceeding 28.

Taskin joins the ranks of Shakib al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam in Bangladesh's all-time bowling statistics.
