Major Changes in Bangladesh Cricket Leadership

Tamim Iqbal Appointed as New President of Bangladesh Cricket Board

While the IPL 2026 is underway in India, significant developments have occurred in Bangladesh. Under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus, relations between India and Bangladesh soured, leading the Bangladeshi team to withdraw from participating in the T20 World Cup in India, influenced by Pakistan's remarks. Former captain Tamim Iqbal had previously urged the government to allow the team to play in India, but he faced backlash and was labeled as an Indian agent.

With the recent departure of Mohammad Yunus, changes have also taken place within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), resulting in Aminul Islam's exit from the presidency.

Tamim Iqbal Takes Over as BCB President

Following a tumultuous period during the T20 World Cup involving the ICC and BCB, significant restructuring is now underway. Aminul Islam Bulbul was removed from his position on Tuesday, and former cricketer Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the new president at the age of 37.

Reports indicate that Aminul's dismissal was a direct consequence of the controversies that arose during the World Cup, with several board directors leveling serious allegations against him.

Tamim Iqbal to Lead BCB Until Next Elections

After Aminul Islam Bulbul's removal, Tamim Iqbal has been designated as the head of an 11-member committee that will manage the board's affairs. This ad-hoc committee is tasked with organizing elections for the cricket board within the next 90 days.

With Tamim now serving as the interim president, the BCB is also working towards improving its relations with India. The committee includes members such as Atar Ali Khan, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Minhajul Abedin Nanu, Ishrafil Khusro, Tanzeem Chowdhury, Salman Isphani, Rafiqul Islam, and Faheem Sinha.
