Revolutionizing Healthcare Access in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: In a significant move to enhance healthcare accessibility, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay unveiled Nalam TN on Tuesday. This integrated digital platform aims to streamline outpatient registration and appointment scheduling at government medical facilities throughout the state.

Users can initiate the booking process by sending a simple 'Hi' to the AI WhatsApp chatbot at 9619222999, allowing them to bypass the long queues typically found in hospitals. The platform, accessible at www.nalam.tn.gov.in, is currently being piloted in 22 districts, including Chennai and Chengalpattu.

Additionally, the platform enables individuals and corporations to directly sponsor medical equipment or make transparent donations to specific government hospitals, thereby enhancing healthcare facilities.

The launch event took place at the Presidency College Auditorium, organized by the state health and family welfare department.

During the event, Vijay also inaugurated healthcare infrastructure projects valued at Rs 139.47 crore, which focus on expanding medical facilities, including patient wards and diagnostic equipment. He presented appointment orders to 2,144 newly hired healthcare professionals, comprising 751 assistant medical officers and 1,393 health inspectors.

In a touching moment, the chief minister personally handed an appointment order to a differently-abled doctor and graciously obliged several doctors who requested autographs and selfies.

Later, Health Minister K G Arunraj informed reporters that these appointments had been pending for an extended period. 'Chief Minister Vijay expedited the approval process, fulfilling one of his electoral commitments, and I am thrilled about this,' he stated.

Regarding the Nalam TN app, he explained that it operates as a Section 8 non-profit company, allowing the public and corporations to contribute their 'little contribution' towards improving healthcare in Tamil Nadu.
