Udhayanidhi Stalin's Arrest Sparks Outrage

Chennai, August 4 - Prior to the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the opposition in Tamil Nadu, police officials engaged in discussions with his family and senior DMK leader M. Subramaniam. This information was confirmed by official sources. Meanwhile, a significant number of DMK supporters gathered outside Udhayanidhi's residence, chanting slogans in protest against the police action targeting their leader.

Despite the protests, senior police officials continued their discussions. They informed Udhayanidhi's wife, Kiruthika Stalin, and Subramaniam about the reasons behind the arrest. Following this, the family requested some time before Udhayanidhi presented himself to the authorities to complete the formal arrest process.

DMK activists debated with police officials regarding the necessity and rationale for the arrest. This led to a chaotic scene outside the residence, where supporters removed police barricades. According to sources, the police waited for nearly an hour after arriving at Udhayanidhi Stalin's residence in Neelankarai before proceeding with the arrest.

As the police transported Udhayanidhi in a vehicle to Thanjavur, several DMK leaders, including former ministers K.N. Nehru and P.K. Shekhar Babu, were present and raised slogans in protest. In response to the arrest, DMK supporters organized demonstrations across the state, causing road blockages. Angered by their leader's detention, some activists even burned effigies of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at various locations.

Nine charges have been filed against Udhayanidhi, including inciting discord among different communities, provoking riots, insulting the dignity of women, and making criminal threats. Sources indicate that provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act have also been invoked.
