Special Pongal Bonus for Employees and Pensioners

The Tamil Nadu government has reaffirmed its commitment to employee welfare by announcing a special Pongal bonus for Category C and D employees and pensioners ahead of the harvest festival. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has issued an official order to provide additional financial support to government employees and pensioners during this festive season.

Details of the Bonus

According to the government order, employees in Categories C and D will receive an additional ₹3,000 as a Pongal bonus. Furthermore, both Category C and D pensioners, along with family pensioners, will be granted a special payment of ₹1,000. This initiative aims to offer financial relief to lower-tier employees and retirees, many of whom rely on fixed incomes for their household expenses.

Financial Allocation for the Scheme

To implement this scheme, the state government has approved a total allocation of ₹183.86 crores. This amount will be used to disburse the Pongal bonus to eligible Category C and D pensioners, family pensioners, and former village officials. The finance department has been instructed to release the funds promptly to ensure beneficiaries receive the amount well ahead of the festival.

Inclusion of Other Employees

In addition to regular employees and pensioners, the government has extended the benefits of this scheme to employees receiving consolidated and one-time salaries. These employees will also receive a special payment of ₹1,000 as part of the Pongal package. It is anticipated that this move will benefit thousands of temporary and contract workers across various government departments and institutions in the state. Officials stated that this decision reflects the government's ongoing focus on employee welfare and inclusive development. By providing financial assistance to low-income families, the government aims to help them manage festival-related expenses and maintain economic stability during the Pongal season. Employee unions have welcomed this announcement, noting that timely payment of the bonus will provide much-needed relief amid rising inflation.
