Record Voter Participation in Tamil Nadu Elections

The Election Commission announced on Friday that the provisional voter turnout in Tamil Nadu reached an impressive 85.15%. The districts of Karur and Salem led the way with over 90% participation. Karur topped the list with a remarkable 92.63% turnout, followed closely by Salem at 90.76%. In contrast, Kanyakumari recorded the lowest turnout at 75.61%. In Chennai, the Perambur constituency, where TVK leader Vijay contested, saw the highest turnout among the capital's 11 constituencies at 89.73%.


 


Reacting to the record voter turnout, Vijay remarked that such a high level of public participation is an unprecedented event in the state's electoral history. He noted that Tamil Nadu has never witnessed an 85% turnout before. He emphasized that calling the elections a celebration of democracy was truly meaningful. Describing this high participation as a pivotal political moment, he expressed gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu for reshaping the state's electoral landscape.


 


Sources from the Election Commission indicated that these figures are provisional and based on data from selected polling stations. In the capital, the Mylapore constituency recorded the lowest turnout at 74.89%. In Kolathur, where DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is contesting, the turnout was 86.11%. Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni saw a turnout of 84.34%. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi, who is contesting for the second time from this constituency, is also in the spotlight. In the Salem district's Edappadi constituency, a turnout of 92.09% was noted, where AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami is once again vying for his traditional seat.
