Tamil Nadu Election: Concerns Raised Over Voter Transportation Issues
In Tamil Nadu, the Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam has raised significant concerns about the lack of transportation facilities for voters during the elections. Leaders N. Anand and Adhav Arjun have petitioned the Chief Electoral Officer, highlighting that many voters are stranded at bus terminals without access to public transport. This situation has sparked fears among political leaders, including Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, about the potential impact on voter turnout. The TVK is calling for urgent action to ensure voters can reach polling stations, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the fundamental right to vote. The unfolding events raise critical questions about electoral management and the accessibility of voting in the state.

Voter Transportation Issues Highlighted in Tamil Nadu
On Thursday, N. Anand, the General Secretary of the Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam (TVK), along with Adhav Arjun, submitted a petition to Archana Patnaik, the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, addressing the lack of transportation facilities for voters. This action follows a letter from TVK leader Vijay to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, urging the establishment of public transport options for individuals stranded at bus terminals in Chennai and requesting an extension of voting hours by two hours.
During a press conference after meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, N. Anand expressed, "We have raised our concerns with Archana Patnaik regarding numerous voters unable to reach their destinations due to the absence of bus services; hence, we have requested her to take necessary actions in this regard."
Adhav Arjun further alleged that Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin is apprehensive about a potential anti-incumbency wave leading to increased voter turnout. He mentioned that even CEO Archana Patnaik had requested the transport department to provide a service. IAS officials, including M.D. Prabhu Shankar and R. Mohan (MD of State Express Transport Corporation), are still following interim CM Stalin's directives. Currently, around 30,000 to 40,000 voters remain stranded at bus stands. Stalin fears that a higher voter turnout could result in electoral defeat.
Adhav Arjun is also a candidate from TVK in the Villivakkam constituency, competing against DMK's Karthik Mohan and AIADMK's Vijaykumar. He cast his vote today at a polling booth in Chennai. Earlier today, Vijay accused the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation of deliberately mismanaging transport services, labeling it an attack on the fundamental right to vote. He also raised concerns about delays in the voting process at several polling booths and urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to extend voting hours until 8 PM. He expressed deep concern and frustration over the complete breakdown of transportation services, stating that thousands of voters are stranded at Chennai's bus terminals and in other metropolitan areas of Tamil Nadu, with no buses or alternative public transport available to reach their designated polling stations. This is not a minor inconvenience; it appears to be a deliberate attempt at mismanagement by the state transport corporation and administration, which directly undermines the fundamental right to vote guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
