Withdrawal of Divorce Petition by Sangeeta

Chennai, August 7 - Sangeeta, the wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, retracted her divorce petition on Friday at a family court near Chengalpattu. During the hearing, her attorney submitted a request to withdraw the petition. Sangeeta appeared before the court via video conferencing and expressed her desire not to pursue the case further.

The court recorded her statement, and the lawyer representing the respondent raised no objections to the withdrawal. Consequently, the court accepted Sangeeta's request and closed the case, granting her the option to file a new petition in the future if necessary.

In her initial divorce petition filed last year, Sangeeta accused her husband of having an extramarital affair with an actress. She claimed that he subjected her to "constant mental harassment, neglect, and abandonment." She also mentioned that she might include the actress as a co-respondent if needed.

Sangeeta stated in her divorce petition that their marital relationship had completely broken down and was beyond repair. She sought a divorce under the Special Marriage Act of 1954. According to the petition, since 2021, Vijay had become "emotionally distant," treated her disrespectfully, and isolated her to the extent that she felt compelled to live a separate life while still residing in the marital home.

The couple's marriage was registered in the UK on July 10, 1998, when Vijay was one of the leading actors. They later married in Chennai following traditional customs on August 25, 1999.
