On Thursday, M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressed alarm over a reported 74% increase in hate speech directed at minorities since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power at the national level. He indicated that this trend signals serious threats looming ahead for the country.

Stalin took to social media to emphasize that the violent actions of certain right-wing groups, which occur while the Prime Minister participates in Christmas celebrations, send a troubling message to the nation.

Recent Attacks on Minorities

He referenced incidents of violence against minorities in Jabalpur and Raipur, labeling them unacceptable for anyone who values harmony. According to Stalin, the reports of attacks on minorities in these areas, following the unrest in Manipur, are intolerable for those who prioritize peace.

The reported rise in hate speech against minorities since the BJP's ascent to power is a clear indication of the serious dangers that lie ahead. He urged that it is a collective and urgent responsibility to curb the activities of riotous groups that seek to divide society.

Stalin asserted that the true strength and character of the majority community are reflected in allowing minorities to live without fear. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Christmas greetings to the people of India and the world on Wednesday, while also paying tribute to notable figures such as Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Maharaja Bijli Pasi on their birth anniversaries. Addressing a gathering in Lucknow, he remarked that December 25, a day of religious and historical significance, marks a new source of inspiration for the city.
