Rejecting accusations of bribery among legislators, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched a strong critique against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). He accused both parties of colluding to establish a government in the southern state. Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam (TVK), asserted that the political struggle in Tamil Nadu is now solely between his party and the DMK, which he accused of promoting 'dynastic politics.' He further claimed that the AIADMK is 'finished' and has no future in the state.

During his inaugural rally in Tiruchirappalli as the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay stated that the ongoing opposition from the DMK would only benefit the TVK. He emphasized that there would be no compromise on the rights of the state and secularism. The Chief Minister declared that they would never falter like Stalin and that the principles of secularism are non-negotiable. He vowed to uphold the state's rights and never relinquish their claim to river water, asserting that they would not compromise on social justice, equality, or fairness under any circumstances.

Vijay expressed that the TVK government is dedicated to serving all citizens, highlighting that the people have made him their first servant and Chief Minister. He stated that their purpose in politics is not to mislead or deceive the public with false promises but to work for the common people, leaving no room for doubt. During his rally, he also questioned why he should not wear a suit, as these colors represent two aspects of the human mind, stating that he prefers not to wear flamboyant attire.

Addressing the criticism regarding his choice of clothing, Vijay asked why wearing a coat should be questioned. He wondered if only those in power and influential positions should be allowed to wear suits. Vijay took the oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10 during a grand rally in Chennai, where his party secured 108 out of 234 seats, successfully forming a government with the support of Congress, leftist parties, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
