Stalin's Allegations Against BJP

On Monday, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that officials from the Income Tax Department conducted a raid at the residence of K. Selva Perunthagai, the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), as part of a strategy to suppress the opposition ahead of the state assembly elections. In a post on Twitter, Stalin labeled the actions against the TNCC leader as a conspiracy and accused the BJP of acting out of fear of defeat.

Condemnation of Actions Against Selva Perunthagai

Stalin condemned the conspiracy aimed at silencing the Tamil Nadu president, Selva Perunthagai, emphasizing that with only 48 hours left until the election campaigning ends, the BJP government is resorting to oppression out of fear of losing. He asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu would respond decisively to such tactics. Previously, Selva Perunthagai had alleged that Income Tax officials raided his home and unlawfully detained him in the Sriperumbudur assembly constituency under the pretext of a search, hindering his ability to fulfill his political duties and connect with the public.

Political Motivations Behind the Raids

He further stated that the presence of Hindi-speaking Income Tax officials outside his residence during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's campaign events prevented him from participating in political activities. Selva Perunthagai characterized this action as politically motivated and claimed that searches were also conducted at the homes of his friends, relatives, and DMK officials. He condemned these actions as unjust and expressed strong disapproval.

Accusations of Misuse of Central Agencies

Selva Perunthagai accused the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) of misusing central agencies. Speaking to a news media outlet, he mentioned that since the previous night, around 10 to 15 Hindi-speaking officers, who did not understand Tamil, were stationed outside his residence and remained there even after Rahul Gandhi's departure. He described their continuous presence as "extremely condemnable," stating that it prevented him from attending or coordinating any events.
