New Office Location for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

Chennai, July 28 - The office of Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to move to the 10th floor of the Namakkal Kavignar Maligai building within the Secretariat complex. According to officials, this new office space is more spacious and offers a panoramic view of the Bay of Bengal. Until now, the Chief Minister has been operating from the historic Fort St. George office.

Due to space constraints and administrative requirements, the decision was made to shift the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) to this modern facility. Following directives from Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, the Public Works Department has commenced preparations for the 10th floor to accommodate the CMO. Departments such as Information and Tamil Development, Tourism, Home, and Commercial Taxes currently on this floor will be relocated to Kalai Vanar Arangam in Chepauk and other floors of the building.

Since July 26, internal renovations, structural modifications, and other construction activities have been underway on the 10th floor. Once completed, this area will be a high-security zone where the Chief Minister, advisors, and four secretaries will operate. The government has stated that the Chief Minister will conduct daily operations from the new office, but will continue to use the historic chambers at Fort St. George for special government events.

This marks the first time in nearly six decades that the Chief Minister's regular office will function outside of Fort St. George. Previously, in 2010-11, then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi briefly operated from the Omandurar Government Estate Secretariat. However, after returning to power in 2011, former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa moved the Secretariat back to Fort St. George.
