Celebrating Pongal and Promoting Tamil Culture
Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister MK Stalin participated in the Pongal celebrations in Chennai today, where he distributed kitchen appliances to attendees. Earlier in the day, he announced the statewide celebrations for Thirukkural Week in January, reaffirming the state government's commitment to promoting Tamil language, literature, and culture. In a post shared online, he mentioned that these events are being organized in line with the silver jubilee of the statue of knowledge established by Muthamil Arignar at Kanyakumari.
In his post, which included a video, Stalin stated that in accordance with the announcement made during the silver jubilee celebrations of the statue of knowledge at Kanyakumari, the Kural War Villa Festival will be celebrated across Tamil Nadu in January! Activities such as Kural painting, Kural readings, musical performances, seminars, Tamil music, a Kural teacher conference involving government employees and educators, quiz competitions, and other events will take place in all 38 districts.
The Chief Minister expressed pride in inaugurating the events under the banner of Thirukkural Thiruvizha, a grand festival that always delights Tamils, and urged the public to honor and uphold the values of Valluvar. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Stalin inaugurated the 49th edition of the Chennai Book Fair at the YMCA grounds in Nandanam. He described it as a long-term celebration of knowledge and expressed happiness over its continued success. During his speech, he conveyed gratitude to the publishers who have consistently organized this exhibition over the years.
Stalin also expressed particular satisfaction that the interest from a donation of 1 crore rupees made by former Chief Minister Kalaignar is being utilized to honor outstanding writers. He further stated that under this initiative, distinguished authors will be awarded 1 lakh rupees each through the Kalaignar Porkizhi award. Emphasizing the importance of knowledge, the Chief Minister asserted that the Tamil community should be recognized globally as a knowledge-based society.
