Mumbai: Tamil film star Srikanth was taken into custody by the Chennai Nungambakkam police on Monday. His arrest followed an investigation that confirmed his involvement in drug use. Reports indicate that Srikanth acquired one gram of narcotics from Prasad, a former AIADMK official, for INR 12,000, using the substance over 40 occasions.


According to various media sources, the actor utilized the fintech service Google Pay to transfer INR 4.72 lakh for his drug purchases.


Prasad had previously been arrested in connection with a pub altercation in Chennai. Following his claims that he sold cocaine to Srikanth, police began investigating the actor. Blood tests conducted on Srikanth confirmed the presence of narcotics, prompting further inquiries into potential links with other actors in the Tamil film industry.


The arrest of Srikanth is part of a broader investigation into narcotics, with authorities striving to uncover additional details. The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit of Chennai police reportedly interrogated the actor, and tests were performed at a government hospital in the city.


Primarily known for his work in Tamil cinema, Srikanth debuted in the film Roja Koottam in 2002, subsequently achieving success with films like April Madhathil, Manasellam, and Parthiban Kanavu, which are regarded as highlights of his career.
