The President of the Indian Olympic Association, PT Usha, has extended her congratulations to shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor for clinching a silver medal at the Asian Games 2026. Usha described Toor's accomplishment as a "remarkable hat-trick" of podium finishes at this prestigious continental event. In a post shared on X, she praised Toor for his impressive performance, where he achieved a best throw of 20.64 meters on his fifth attempt in the men's shot put final. Toor's silver medal came after he finished behind Iran's Mohammadreza Tayebise, who set a Games Record with a throw of 20.81 meters. This latest achievement adds to Toor's impressive track record, having previously won gold medals at the 2018 Jakarta and 2022 Hangzhou editions of the Asian Games.

Day 8: Other Indian Performances

On Day 8 of the Asian Games, India made significant strides in various events. The men's and women's compound archery teams advanced to the semifinals after defeating the UAE and Mongolia, respectively, in the Round of 16.

In athletics, Tejaswin Shankar secured third place in the 110m hurdles of the men's decathlon, accumulating 932 points and maintaining his lead in the overall standings with a total of 5,270 points. Another Indian decathlete, Thowfeeq Noushad, did not participate in the event.

In badminton, the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto faced a tough match against China's Huang Dongping and Feng Yan Zhe, losing 14-21, 21-18, 18-21 in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly were defeated 18-21, 9-21 by Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan in the women's doubles quarterfinals.

In surfing, Sivaraj Babu progressed to Round 3 of the men's shortboard after defeating Iran's Davoud Khadir, while Kamali Prakash and Sugar Shanti Gayen also advanced in the women's shortboard category.

In the women's marathon race walk, India's Manju Rani finished sixth, while Priyanka Goswami faced disqualification. The Indian teams experienced setbacks in sepaktakraw and kurash, with the women's doubles team losing 0-2 to South Korea and Bharti losing 0-3 to Iran's Tahereh Azarpeivand in the women's 57kg Round of 16.

As of now, India ranks 10th in the overall medal standings with a total of 30 medals, which includes four gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze.
