Tahira Kashyap Reveals Breast Cancer Relapse on World Health Day: A Call for Regular Screenings
Tahira Kashyap's Brave Announcement
Mumbai: Tahira Kashyap, the wife of actor Ayushmann Khurrana and a noted author, has disclosed that she is facing a relapse of breast cancer, a battle she first fought in 2018.
On World Health Day, she took to Instagram to announce her diagnosis, stressing the importance of regular mammograms for those who have survived cancer. In her post, she stated, “Seven year itch or the power of regular screening – I prefer the latter and encourage everyone to prioritize regular mammograms. Round 2 for me... I still got this.”
In her caption, she expressed, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. If life throws them at you again, calmly turn them into your favorite kala khatta drink and enjoy it with good intentions. It’s a better drink, and you know you’ll give it your all once more #regularscreening #mammogram #breastcancer #onemoretime #letsgo. Ironically, today is #WorldHealthDay. Let’s do our best to take care of ourselves #gratitude.”
Seven years prior, Tahira underwent a mastectomy. Throughout her journey, she has been candid about her experiences, using her platform to raise awareness about breast cancer. In 2018, she was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), which is characterized by high-grade malignant cells in her right breast, classified as stage 0 or pre-cancerous.
Recently, Tahira posted a powerful message featuring a photo of herself with a clean-shaven head due to chemotherapy. She also shared several images documenting significant moments from her treatment journey.
In her post, she reflected, “That’s life! You make the most of it, and in doing so, you realize how humbling the experience is. I honor the many courageous women who have fought valiantly. Let everyone’s journey remind us to cherish our lives. Each of us is significant, and no one else can do what you can. Spread awareness: early detection of breast cancer is curable, not just treatable. Sending love, hope, and joy to all. Life is meant to be celebrated with gratitude.”
