Impressive Starts for Top Players

Defending champion Syndrela Das, along with top seed Divyanshi Bhowmick and Japan's Miku Matsushima, kicked off their U-19 singles journey with remarkable victories in their respective groups during the WTT Youth Contender 2026, hosted at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex on Sunday.


This second edition of the WTT Youth Contender Vadodara 2026, presented by the Sports Authority of Gujarat, is organized by the Table Tennis Association of Baroda and executed by UTT, featuring a total of 226 competitors across age categories from U-11 to U-19.


Top Seeds Progress in Singles

Syndrela, who secured the U-17 title the previous day, triumphed over Archismita Mahato with scores of 11-7, 11-7, and 11-8 in Group 3. Meanwhile, Divyanshi dominated Shrestha Kontham, winning 11-4, 11-3, and 11-7 in Group 1.


Miku also had a strong start in Group 2, defeating Gunjan Kumar with a score of 11-3, 11-6, and 11-4.


The leading seeds in the boys' U-19 category also advanced to the knockout rounds, each securing two victories in their groups.


U-15 Mixed Doubles Upset

In an earlier match, Vivaan Dave and Naisha Rewaskar displayed remarkable composure in a thrilling decider that extended into extra points, upsetting the top seeds Aditya Das and Ankolika Chakraborty to reach the U-15 mixed doubles final.


The duo won with scores of 13-11, 5-11, 11-7, 5-11, and 23-21, setting up a final against fellow competitors Reyansh Jalan and Tanishka Kalbhairav, who defeated Sanjay Jagdish and Myraa Sangelkar with scores of 11-3, 15-13, and 11-7.
