Kolkata, May 11: On Monday, Suvendu Adhikari, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, announced during his inaugural cabinet meeting that the state government has approved the transfer of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of a fence along the border with Bangladesh.

Adhikari stated, "The West Bengal administration has given its approval for the land transfer to the BSF, initiating the fencing process today, which is expected to be completed within 45 days."

He further elaborated that the land transfer process would commence immediately and is projected to conclude within the specified timeframe.

Additionally, the Chief Minister revealed plans to implement the central government's prominent Ayushman Bharat health initiative along with various other Union government schemes in the state.

The cabinet also sanctioned a proposal to extend the age limit for school job applicants by five years, fulfilling a commitment made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the election campaign.

Adhikari mentioned that the cabinet has empowered the chief secretary to initiate training programs for officers under both national and state cadres, in collaboration with the central government.

He criticized the previous administration led by Mamata Banerjee for neglecting a circular dated June 16, 2025, from the Registrar General of India, which informed the state about the upcoming Census exercise.

According to Adhikari, the TMC government had undermined the Constitution and the public by delaying the Census process in Bengal to obstruct women's reservation. The cabinet has now authorized the immediate implementation of the circular.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister accused the former TMC government of failing to officially implement the new criminal law, the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which replaces the previous IPC and CrPC. He confirmed that the cabinet has granted official approval for the new law to take effect.
