Suvendu Adhikari Sworn in as West Bengal's First BJP Chief Minister
Mother's Call for Justice and Employment
On Saturday, Gayatri Adhikari, the mother of Suvendu Adhikari, expressed that the people of West Bengal are thrilled about her son taking the oath as the Chief Minister representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, she emphasized the importance of ensuring true justice for the victim of the RG Kar rape-murder case. Additionally, she urged Suvendu to work towards providing justice for all victims and creating job opportunities for the populace. Gayatri stated, "I will tell him to focus on delivering justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and all those who have suffered atrocities." She also highlighted Suvendu's journey, noting that he has faced life-threatening attacks at least three to four times while tirelessly opposing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the past five years.
A Legacy of Resilience
Gayatri expressed her happiness, stating that the people of Bengal are even more delighted than she is. She credited her son’s fighting spirit to his father, who was similarly resilient. Suvendu's father, Sisir Adhikari, served as a TMC Member of Parliament for the Kanthi constituency three times. The family was long associated with Mamata Banerjee's party, but their allegiance shifted to the BJP following Suvendu's entry into the party before the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal.
Suvendu's Oath Ceremony as Chief Minister
This morning, Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as West Bengal's first BJP Chief Minister. The ceremony took place at the Parade Ground in Kolkata, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP's central leadership, and Chief Ministers from various states governed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Alongside Suvendu, five other BJP leaders—Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nishith Pramanik—also took their oaths as ministers. Among them, two hail from North Bengal, while three are from South Bengal, reflecting efforts to strengthen BJP's support across different regions. Although departmental allocations have not yet been announced, sources indicate that the remaining ministers will be sworn in on Monday at the Raj Bhavan, with the first cabinet meeting likely to occur on the same day.
