Suvendu Adhikari Challenges Mamata Banerjee on Voter List Revisions
Political Tensions Rise Over Voter List Revisions in West Bengal
On Monday, Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), confronted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. He sent a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, firmly rejecting Banerjee's criticisms of the SIR process. Adhikari shared a message on social media, stating, "I have written to the honorable Chief Election Commissioner, @ECISVEEP Gyanesh Kumar, to refute the false claims spread by Mamata Banerjee regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and her recent appeal to halt it." He emphasized that Banerjee's so-called concerns about the SIR are entirely fabricated.
Adhikari further asserted that the Election Commission's initiative is exposing the TMC's hidden secrets, including fraudulent voters, deceased leaders, and illegal immigrants that the party has allegedly protected for years to manipulate elections. He noted that it is evident that Banerjee is anxious, as the SIR poses a significant threat to her aspirations for 2026. The Election Commission is conducting the SIR to ensure transparency and reliability in the electoral process, highlighting the escalating tensions between state leadership and the central election authority ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Mamata Banerjee's Concerns Addressed
Previously, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also reached out to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, raising various issues related to the Special Intensive Revision in the state. In her letter dated January 3, she accused the Election Commission (ECI) officials of misusing the IT system and claimed that voters' names were removed from the backend without proper authorization.
