Indore, September 4: A newly married woman was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in a water tank located outside her residence in Indore, just 25 days following her love marriage, according to police reports released on Friday.
The victim, identified as Vandana Kushwaha, was found in the water tank situated in the Nehru Nagar area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Rau police station, on Thursday.
Authorities retrieved her body after receiving alerts from neighbors, and it has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Initial investigations revealed injury marks on Vandana's body. Her husband, Upendra Patel, along with his brother, has been taken into custody for questioning.
"At first glance, this case seems to be a murder. However, the precise cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem results are available," stated ACP Nidhi Saxena.
Reports indicate that Vandana and Patel previously resided in Nehru Nagar. Her family later moved to a rented accommodation in Rajnagar, allegedly due to Patel's issues with addiction.
The couple had a love marriage on August 11, after which Vandana began living with Patel at his home.
Police noted that Vandana's family had previously filed a missing-person report at the Chandan Nagar police station. After her statement was recorded, she expressed her desire to stay with Patel, despite her family's concerns regarding frequent disputes over his addiction.
The situation escalated on Thursday afternoon when neighbors reportedly heard Vandana screaming from inside the house. Shortly after, Patel emerged, and witnesses observed bloodstains on his shirt, according to police accounts.
When no further sounds were heard from the residence for an extended period, neighbors contacted the police.
"Upon arrival, officers discovered Vandana's body in the water tank outside the home. The husband and his brother are currently being interrogated, and all aspects surrounding the death are under investigation," Saxena added.
Authorities anticipate that the post-mortem examination will yield vital information regarding the cause of death. Subsequent actions will be determined based on the autopsy results and evidence collected during the investigation.
