Dhaka, Dec 28: Two main suspects involved in the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi, a leader of Inquilab Moncho, have reportedly left Bangladesh and are thought to be in India, according to a senior officer from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S N Md Nazrul Islam disclosed during a press briefing that the suspects, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, managed to cross into Meghalaya, India, with assistance from local contacts.

As per the information available, the suspects entered India through the Haluaghat border. Upon arrival, they were initially met by a person named Purti, and subsequently, a taxi driver named Sami took them to Tura city in Meghalaya, as reported by The Daily Star.

Details regarding the exact timing of their escape to India were not provided by the police officer, and there has been no official response from Indian authorities regarding this matter.

Sharif Osman Hadi, aged 32, was shot in the head on December 12 while campaigning in Dhaka. He was later airlifted to Singapore for critical medical care but succumbed to his injuries on December 18.

Hadi was a notable youth figure during the mass protests in July-August 2024, which resulted in the ousting of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina. He was also a candidate for the upcoming elections scheduled for February 12.
