Police Encounter Leads to Arrest in North Delhi

New Delhi, August 4 - A suspected member of the Neeraj Bawana-Navin Bali gang has been apprehended following an encounter with police in Outer North Delhi. An official reported this development on Tuesday, stating that the suspect allegedly fired at the police team, resulting in a gunshot wound to his leg during the return fire.

The suspect has been identified as Savinder, aged 36. He was captured late Monday night during an operation in the Alipur area. Authorities indicated that they received intelligence suggesting Savinder was involved in extorting money from traders and property dealers in the Alipur and Narela regions, and was expected to pass through GTK Road-Hiran Ki Pushta Road.

A senior police officer explained, “When the police team signaled him to stop and surrender, the suspect reportedly opened fire on the officers. One bullet struck Sub-Inspector Vishal's bulletproof vest, but he was unharmed.” The officer added that the police responded in self-defense, resulting in Savinder being shot in his left leg.

Following his arrest, Savinder was initially taken to Raja Harishchandra Hospital and later transferred to LNJP Hospital for treatment. The police recovered a pistol, three cartridges, and five shell casings from the scene.

According to police records, Savinder is an active member of the Neeraj Bawana-Navin Bali gang and has six criminal cases against him, including charges of murder, attempted murder, assault, and violations of the Arms Act. Authorities believe he was allegedly plotting another attack.
