Suryakumar Yadav's Fitness Test Success

Before the selection committee meeting led by Ajit Agarkar for India's Asia Cup team, T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav successfully completed his fitness test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Having last played in the IPL, he was named 'Player of the Series'. This aggressive batsman underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany, back in June.

A source from the BCCI informed that a fitness test is mandatory before returning to play post-surgery. Suryakumar has successfully passed this test. Following his surgery, he shared on Instagram, "I had surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. I'm happy to report that I'm already recovering well after the surgery and eagerly awaiting my return."

Upcoming Selection Meeting and Asia Cup Schedule

Now that he has regained his fitness, the stylish batsman is set to attend the selection committee meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28 in the UAE, with India kicking off their campaign against the host team on September 10, followed by a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.

At 34 years old, Suryakumar had an impressive IPL season, scoring 717 runs, making him the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to score over 600 runs in a single season for the Mumbai Indians. He finished just behind Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudharsan, the Orange Cap winner with 759 runs, and played a crucial role in leading the Mumbai Indians to the playoffs, where they defeated Gujarat in the eliminator but lost to Punjab Kings in the second qualifier.

Recent Performances and Health Updates

Shortly after the IPL, he participated in the T20 Mumbai League for the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings. It remains unclear whether he experienced any pain from the hernia during this time. Suryakumar has also undergone ankle surgery in 2023, in addition to the sports hernia operation.
