Ambitious Goals for 2028

Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian men's T20I team, has shared his aspirations to secure victory in the 2028 T20 World Cup, aiming for a remarkable third consecutive title. Additionally, he expressed a strong desire to win a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

During his speech at the BCCI Naman Awards, Yadav, who led India to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup, emphasized the team's goal of achieving a third straight T20 World Cup win while also targeting Olympic success. He described cricket's inclusion in the Olympics as a significant milestone.

"It's fantastic that such a major event is taking place, and cricket is being included. There are two major competitions in 2028: the T20 World Cup and the Olympics. If we've managed to win two in a row, why not aim for a third in T20Is and definitely go for the Olympic gold?" Yadav stated in a video shared by the BCCI on X.

Winning Streak and Future Aspirations

When asked about India's success in white-ball cricket, Yadav attributed the team's dominance to their victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which he believes provided the team with a crucial "taste" of winning an ICC trophy. He noted that subsequent victories, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, have built on that momentum, with India now focused on winning as many ICC trophies as possible.

"We just needed that one spark or step, which we crossed in 2024. Following that, the 2025 Champions Trophy win, the women's ODI World Cup in 2025, and then the men's T20 World Cup in 2026 were all pivotal. That initial taste of victory was essential for everyone to grasp what it takes to win an ICC trophy. Now, there's no turning back. With this wonderful journey underway, let's aim to collect as many trophies as we can," Yadav added.
