Surgeon Disrupts Court with Rice, Faces Penalty

Court Disruption by Medical Professional

A surgeon, already embroiled in a murder trial since 2011, has recently been penalized for causing a disturbance during court proceedings by engaging in an unusual act.

During the hearing, the surgeon threw rice in front of the judge's bench, which created an atmosphere of unease in the courtroom. This led to hesitation among the lawyers present, who feared that the act was part of a black magic ritual.

Prior to the hearing, the accused had also scattered rice grains on the floor beneath the dais, prompting court staff to report the incident.

As a result, the court proceedings were halted, as the advocates insisted on cleaning the area before continuing. The court expressed its astonishment, stating, 'It is shocking that Dr. Chander, a surgeon from an educated background, would engage in such bizarre behavior.'

The court remarked, 'It is surprising that Dr. Chander Vibhas, a professional surgeon from an elite class, would act in such an unreasonable manner, disrupting court proceedings.'

The court took note of the disruption caused under Section 267 BNS, 2023, as the proceedings were paused for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and the case is triable in the same court where the incident occurred.

Following the incident, the accused offered an apology.

After reviewing the circumstances, including the apology and the accused's remorse, ASJ Tandon sentenced him to imprisonment until the court adjourned and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 to be paid to the state on August 11.

When questioned, the accused claimed that he accidentally dropped the rice he was holding. However, given that he was aware of his court appearance, this explanation was deemed unsatisfactory. He could not justify why he had rice with him during the proceedings.

The incident left the advocates in shock, leading them to request the removal of all rice before they could proceed with their case.

The court proceedings were paused at the request of the lawyers, who suspected the accused might be engaging in black magic.
