In May 2026, Himachal Pradesh experienced a notable rise in digital bookings for domestic LPG cylinders, reaching 94%, up from 85% in February of the same year. This increase highlights a growing trend of consumer awareness and the adoption of digital services within the state.
Officials noted that the shift towards digital platforms has significantly decreased the occurrences of fraudulent bookings and duplications, enhancing accountability and improving the LPG distribution framework. To combat black marketing and other irregularities, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are actively refining the Digital Authentication Code (DAC) system, with Himachal Pradesh achieving a remarkable 94% authentication rate.
This surge in digital transactions coincides with a spike in demand for petroleum products across various states, driven by seasonal agricultural activities and harvesting. Industry insiders have observed that lower prices at public sector fuel stations have prompted a shift in consumer behavior, with retail consumers increasingly favoring public sector outlets.
Public sector OMCs, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, have ramped up their operational and logistical efforts nationwide to ensure a steady supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG, despite the recent surge in demand in multiple regions.
According to officials, these companies are leveraging their extensive infrastructure, which includes terminals, depots, pipelines, LPG bottling facilities, and retail outlets, to ensure a consistent supply and timely replenishment of fuel stocks. Supply teams and transportation networks are working around the clock to facilitate the smooth distribution of petroleum products.
The OMCs are also collaborating closely with state governments to effectively monitor stock levels and respond to fluctuations in demand promptly. The oil sector has reassured consumers that sufficient supplies of petrol, diesel, and LPG are available nationwide, and all necessary measures are being implemented to maintain a steady supply.
